Founded in 1960, the Floodwoods Herd in Waitsfield,
Vermont, continues to accentuate the inherent attributes of the Beltie
breed so suitable for rough terrain in harsh climates. Belted Galloways
are great foragers and, in the summer, thrive on marginal hill pastures.
With their extra winter coat, they live out all winter with only hay to
eat. The mothers calve easily, give copious milk, and are protective.
Most Beltie breeders select for rapid growth, mature size, and grain-conversion
efficiency. While we at Floodwoods appreciate these standard criteria,
they are no more important for us than conformation, rugged durability,
ease in calving, and mothering ability. We do not crossbreed, record
in the appendix, or even keep mismarked calves. We promote natural
selection for strength and character. After forty years, Floodwoods
may only be the second oldest herd in the US but we are, perhaps, first
in producing handsome, strong and lasting purebred Belties. |

Meadow View Farm prides themselves in raising quality
Belted Galloway show and breeding stock with grassfed genetics. We maintain
a pure and all-natural feeding environment by pasturing our cattle during
the summer months and produce our own haylage to support the animals during
the winter months. The cattle are raised in a natural, low-stress environment,
feed on lush green pastures and are completely hormone-free, resulting
in a beef product that is exceptionally tender, full of flavor, and juicy.
Call Steve Downing for more information on our show and breeding stock. |
